Ever since I was in about the 6th grade (that was more than 2 years ago), Platte River State Park has been a favorite of mine. As a kid, I was taken here while staying at near by Camp Kitaki and this was prior to the park even being open. Anyway, as I had a park pass for the year of 2023, we decided to give their new campground a try.

This park has several 50AMP full hookup sites. It is about half FCFS/Reserved. Best of luck reserving a space here with a weekend stay. The sites book up immediately. We actually stayed during the week and by Tuesday most of the FCFS spots were all taken.

The camp spots are all very nice and very level. It was nice for a change to be able to pull into a spot and just unhook to let the auto level finish it out. Sadly, the camp hosts took off on Monday sometime. They were very nice though. The only down side to this campground, was there was no shade. It is a newer facility so I get it. There’s also not much character to any specific sites. They are all just cemented sites along a road.

The campground also had a nice dog run where Molly could venture around. Close by to that was a small play ground and a small bath house. I never used the bath house (or the playground for that matter). Given the opportunity, I would visit again but we do not plan on purchasing into the Nebraska Park Permit System next year due to the rising costs for out of state folks.

Platte River State Park is not next to the interstate but it is an easy drive from Mahoney which is. That means you don’t have the constant white noise of traffic that you may be used to hearing.

As always, some photos are shown below. A few of these photos were actually taken from nearby Mahoney State Park. I did venture over there on 9/11 for a quick visit.
